Eye Exams

Adult Eye Exams- Ages 19-64 years

  • Our experienced eye doctors will perform a comprehensive examination of your vision and your ocular health. Vision testing will allow your doctor to assess you visual needs based off your lifestyle and complaints and tailor your prescription to help you perform your daily activities both comfortably and with the clearest vision possible. Our doctors also take into consideration the effects that the eye muscles and focusing system can have on your vision, and use that information to prescribe you the best correction possible in both glasses and contact lenses.

  • The health of your eyes is equally important. You will be evaluated and checked for all sorts of eye conditions including glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration among many others. Included in our eye exams is our advanced retinal imaging via Optos. Your eye doctor will review the photos of the back of your eye with you, pointing out any areas of concern. Should you need any further testing, our office is well equipped to diagnose and manage nearly any eye condition!

  • Healthy adults should typically have their eyes examined every 1-2 years, even if they don’t notice any changes in their vision, or if they’ve had corrective surgery. If there is a reason to see you sooner than the recommended time, your doctor will be sure to discuss that with you.

Pediatric Eye Exams- Age 6 months-19 years

  • Did you know, Alberta Health Care covers yearly eye exams for children up until the age of 19! It is so important for children to have their eyes checked annually since they are continually growing and developing. Children may not know that their vision is actually blurry or that they aren’t seeing out of one eye, which is why they should have their eyes checked by an optometrist.

  • Our doctors can perform eye exams on any child, even a newborn! Typically in patients under the age of 3, our doctors are evaluating the patient for major prescriptions or concerning eye conditions. As your child gets older, the doctor will be able to perform a more thorough exam and evaluation of their vision and health. Just because your child does not know their letters, does not mean that we can’t check their eyes. We have many testing strategies that allow us to examine infants and non-verbal patients!

  • Many children struggle in school and more often than not, it is vision related. Some children may struggle to read, or keep reversing their letters, or simply can’t see what the teacher is writing on the board. Early detection of vision problems can help them excel in school and prevent any future vision related problems.

Senior Eye Exams- Age 65+

  • Just like everything else in the body, our eyes also age. This is why Alberta Health Care covers annual exams for anybody over the age of 65. This is when we begin to see many eye conditions develop like cataracts and macular degeneration. Yearly eye exams allow us to detect new conditions early on, or closely monitor existing conditions for any changes.

Ocular Nutrition

Nutritional support is an important aspect of our vision and eye health. Our doctor’s stay up to date on the evidence based research that is being performed worldwide regarding the role of nutrition in ocular health. They will make specific recommendations of certain nutritional supplements that may help to prevent certain eye diseases, or to help slow the progression of others. Talk to our eye doctors today to see if you would benefit from supplementing your diet with certain nutrients!

Our Technology

Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA)

  • The Zeiss HFA is vital in accurately testing our patients’ peripheral vision. It helps us to precisely map out any loss in peripheral visual field, which can result in “tunnel vision”. Many conditions can cause tunnel vision, including glaucoma, strokes, neurological disorders and other retinal conditions. By accurately mapping out your visual field, our HFA allows us to analyze and monitor any changes to your visual field over time.

Topcon 3D Optical Coherence Tomography Maestro (OCT)

  • OCT imaging provides a 3D cross section of the retina and the optic nerve within only a few seconds! The highly awarded Topcon 3D Maestro helps our eye doctors to diagnose many eye conditions that can’t be seen by the naked eye, and is also useful in the management of many conditions. This includes macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and can even detect toxicity from some medications such as Plaquenil!

  • BlephExTM is a revolutionary new hand held instrument that is used by your optometrist or licensed technician to treat blepharitis and dry eye disease. A medical grade micro-sponge is precisely and quickly spun along the edge of your eyelids and eyelashes, cleaning away any debris and exfoliating your eyelid margin to help open up the oil glands providing relief from the burning and irritation patients feel with blepharitis.
